Alice James Books Awarded 2022 Poetry Fund Grant from the Amazon Literary Partnership & Academy of American Poets

NEW GLOUCESTER, MAINE—Alice James Books is pleased to announce it is a recipient of a 2022 Poetry Fund grant from the Academy of American Poets in alliance with the Amazon Literary Partnership (ALP). The Poetry Fund grants are provided annually to poetry organizations and presses that are selected from among a pool of applicants. The ALP originally launched the Poetry Fund with the Academy in 2019 to further its role as a supporter of poetry organizations nationwide and to build the readership of poetry.

“We’re extremely grateful to work with the Amazon Literary Partnership to support a diverse community of poetry organizations and publishers whose work sparks compassion and helps us imagine new ways forward,” said Jennifer Benka, president and executive director of the Academy of American Poets.

“Since its inception in 2009, the mission of the Amazon Literary Partnership has been to support organizations that are vital to sustaining the literary culture of communities and to connect writers with their readers,” said Al Woodworth, Manager of the Amazon Literary Partnership. “We are thrilled to be working again with the Academy of American Poets to reach these poetry organizations committed to supporting today’s most exciting poets. We thank the Academy of American Poets and the 2022 Poetry Fund grant recipients for making such a meaningful impact on the lives of poets and readers.”

Alice James Books currently publishes 8 books a year and maintains a list of over 250 titles. Grant funds will be used to help its writers achieve purposeful engagement with a broad audience and communities and will support the ebook and print publication, distribution, and promotion of new works of poetry by eight authors in 2022-23. Emerging and established writers whose works will be supported during this grant period are: Katie Marya, Aldo Amparán, J. Estanislao Lopez, Jill McDonough, Janine Joseph, Ina Cariño, Katie Farris, and Vandana Khanna.
