Alice James Books receives donation from Follium Partners to create ground-breaking app
that provides free access to poetry books.

Farmington, ME— Indie poetry press Alice James Books is announcing the launch of its groundbreaking new iOS app, Alice James, in partnership with John Joynt, General Manager of Digital Publishing at Folium Partners. A key feature of the app is Backlist, a free, subscription-based service that offers in-app reading of Alice James books.

Carey Salerno, Executive Editor of Alice James Books, remarks, “We are grateful for Folium Partners’ generosity and partnership, which has afforded us the exciting and innovative opportunity of building and launching this new app, Alice James. It is deeply satisfying whenever we are able to respond to the growing needs of our readership, and we are particularly looking forward to the unique offering of Backlist, an exclusive program that enables users to discover and read AJB books for free via the app.”

The Alice James app will also feature eBooks for purchase, including books on AJB’s frontlist; audio reading recordings; reviews information; and more. With the app, the press seeks to engage and enlighten readers to the press’ prestigious backlist of books–some of which have been declared out of print. And as it continues to offer new ways of interacting with its books and authors, the press also aims to increase reader access to poetry regardless of socioeconomic status, to diversify the means by which all readers may encounter great writing, and to foster a lifelong love and appreciation for poetry in new and existing readers.

About Alice James Books:

Alice James Books was founded in 1973 as a feminist press with the vision to give women writers “a chance” when they weren’t “writing like a man.” Today, the mission of Alice James Books is to publish the best contemporary poetry by emerging and established writers. The press also continues to emphasize its support for publishing women writers. AJB publishes six books of poetry a year. In 2017, it will increase this frequency from six to eight. Learn more at
